Hi! Finally we have an english forum around this place... i know this has been requested a lot of times but I wanted something different for this... I wanted all the forum interface in english, but it was not possible to create the new forum that way...
So I decided to give it a try without translating the interface but with the rule of writing only in english and bad english... Ok... spanglish is allowed too :p
Comments are welcome... Moderators too.

Well as I put my 2 bob in on the other thread, I guess that I am going to be a common occurance here aswell.
For those that don't know me. I am a native speaker of Australian english, and use it at a high level every day, for my job. I consult on Communications, IT and Security Technical services for Commercial and Construction projects. If you have questions about either the real world use of business english or even anything within my area of expertise (OSI layer 1 is my bitch :D ) I am happy to help the LANeros out.
Let me know
EnempE.

Thanks EnempE, as I said in the other thread, it's great to have a native speaker around. Besides, since many LANeros work in communications and related fields, this thread may become a place of discussion for such topics. And for everything else, of course :D

Well this is a nice Forum. I'm gonna tell you my story
After i got my degree as an Industria Engineer in Bogota in april 2005, i started to look for a place to improve my english skills, i looked in Australia, USA, UK, etc. Those places offered nice english programs for foreigners but at a very high cost. I was really frustrated, but i remembered that i had a friend in Kingston Jamaica, and i called her to see if it was possible to study english there.
She told me that there was an specialized institute that teaches english to foreigners, so she not only helped me to enter that school but she offered me to stay with her and her family for almost 8 months without paying her any rent, food or laundry!!! So i am studing english in Kingston right now, i am here since the 25th of July and i am planing to go babk to Bogota by the 2nd of March 2006.
I didnt expeted that Jamaica was a place to study english, but actually lots of japaneese, russians, chineese, panamenians, etc. are studing here. It was a total surprise for me.
I've had a very good luck, i am looking forward to my going back to Bogota in order to do the TOEFL exam and, after that, start to look for a job. I hope everything will be all right.
If you want to know more about learning english in Jamaica, i can give you some extra info.

But Anyway the english will have some trouble in the conversations... becasuse here are many people that dont speak good english... like me. xP

This meant to be to give people that little bit of help that they need. If you don't understand jargon or grammer or whatever then this is where you ask about it. Its kinda like having training wheels. I understand what you mean, that is why I am in this forum in the first place.
By the way, "that speak good english" is technically ok but it sounds clunky and people actually use this as a joke. Use the phrase "speak english well" it's a little more elegant.

That would be a problem Luis... The rules on this site says the allowed languages on LANeros.com are only spanish and english... That's because most of the moderators only knows these two languages... If someone comes here speaking in japanese insulting and blaming everyone, no one would notice...

1) Regarding Luis(tm)'s idea of a Languages forum, I think maybe we should set up a poll or something, to see how many LANeros can actually communicate/would like to try to communicate in languages different from those allowed in this site as far as the rules are concerned. I'd love to practice my basic German and I'd sure be the only one writing in Danish but anyway, the point is that we should have a poll.
2) Thx EnempE for your help with the prepositions. Please pay attention to the expressions people, sometimes you might find idiomatic expressions that use a certain preposition even though we would prefer another one if we abide by those general rules. But by following those you'll be 97% right all the time... do you agree EnempE?
EnempE
noviembre 27, 2005, 11:50
'In' is commonly used in the basic ways highlighted. But it is a very common word and you will hear it in a variety of ways very often. If you think 'within/inside/enclosed' or 'associated with' you will have got it most of the time (bout 80%). The other one's noted above are another 17% percent of the time, and the last 3% are strange. Just nod your head and try to go with context on the others, you should be fine as the 'in' is largely redundant when used idiomatically.

...1) Regarding Luis(tm)'s idea of a Languages forum, I think maybe we should set up a poll or something...That thing was done some time ago... The results were overwhelming: "99 to 1 " or so, giving support for the idea... At that time, sadly there were no positive answer from Laneros' staff (I reckon JulianD was interested but a few others weren't moved by the petition)... Let me search the link... Finally, it was inevitable to fall in discussion and the thread was closed by S@ja.
But well... That's ancient history. Hope JulianD agree now to rename the forum allowing other languages than English.
Krieg can speak German?!?!

diciembre 8, 2005, 02:11
I want to share with you this lesson. For more information clic here (http://englishtown.com)
Dreams
The word "dream" has more than one meaning. You can dream at night, but you can also have dreams for the future. What do you want to do in the future? Do you want a lot of money? Do you want a family? Do you want happiness?
GRAMMAR EXERCISE
To talk about the future, use the simple future. Use the modal verb "will" with the base form of the main verb. For example, I will go, You will eat, She will run, We will be, They will jump
Use the simple future to describe your dreams for the future. Where will you be in one year?
Where will you be in 5 years? Where will you be in 10 years?
What will you do? What will you have? Question for the week: Have you ever had an interesting dream?

Kreig,
My holiday was awesome, even though my plans to meet up with the laneros didn't really happen.
I am seriously planning on coming back, and maybe spending a little more time. All I need is to organise the funds, and get what ever hookups I can for work etc. so that my stay can last long enough to be worth while. I want to actually learn spanish.

Yes, i want a japanese and german languages thread, i don't know that languages but might be for learning too, maybe asking words, phrases.
I'd like to learn some phrases of German or Japenese or whatever...
for example French: "La vie c'est la merd"
Pronunciation: (La vi ce la megd)
Meaning: Life is a Ch&#$

Hi JulianD, tks for the invitation to the forum, I wait for learn English, jajaja.
LANeros is the best.
Good wind and good sea for you...
