Ohh man I can't believe it :P:P:P just like Kaliche correcting Kyntero's grammar, anyways I can't believe a guy some posts above liked the "redneck" accent, I find it kind of funny but never a good accent to speak like

And coming back to it, I like all of the UK accent's and australian, the american is just sort of "generic" but ok.

Who said something about the kids??

Everyone in Boston talk like that... like I said... even the tourism guide advice about that. And you can see in all the american media, they make fun about Boston accent... so honeslty dude, I don't know what ya say that Bostonian accent is good... they don't know the letter R???????? :P

My first month over there was difficult to understand the people... and actually I have a little bit of that accent mixed with russian accent and dominican accent :P so my accent is the best XD bostonianrussiandominicancolombian accent :)

Juanfernandoz

Dudes, not problem it all about bostonian accent because differrent states has a lot of variations about the ways to say the same words even with the guetto speak thing, so, at last there is nobody with the better way only states with differences in the way of speaking.

I have never found a big difference between canadian and northern US accent, just little differences on the slang but nothing big.

PS: I'm not saying there isn't a difference, is just that I don't notice it.

I prefere American English.

Simply because U.S.A is the first power nation on the world.
United Kingdom is a great nation, but nobody can deny that all the big industry, big bussines, the best universities and generrally all the big oportunities are there(USA).

Some people say that american accent is very entangled, but USA is a country with more than 300.000.000 people, there are MANY kind of accents.

Say that is like saying that colombian spanish is very hard and fast because the form that people from the atlantic coast talk´s it xD.

Yeah, in general most southern satates on the USA has as you say a freaking hilarious "redneck" accent, it's like a peasant kind of accent, funny to hear but ugly to talk, so that said i think the best accents for my taste are in the UK, the England one is elegant and refined and the Irish/Scotch is like really cool young people accent.

I suppose people that is not a native speaker can't have a perfect pronunciation, but
they should have a good management of grammar, that shows you really had studied the language and denote intelligence. As second tongue we will always have "our characteristic accent" depending what is the mother tongue.
Otherwise, I rather by all means british accent, for the elegance and because it is the original one.
Bye-bye.

No matter how hard I try.... I can not get back my British accent. It is so lovely!!! My first words in English had that accent, because my English teacher was from England and so many others.
I've never been to an English spoken country; however, people often tell me about my American accent :cansado: and American people tell me the one I have is from Queens... OH REALLY??? LOL can't believe you!!!! Maybe cause mom and my sister live there and we speak on the phone so often???
I rather the British one=)

I had posted here once in the past, and it seems is one of the most attractive topics ever created.
Somehow, for me is hard to decide, since I think british accent is lovely and pretty understandable, but we should not forget, that even there, coexist many accents as well.
Speaking of american, is rather difficult, hence there is not a universal accent, as in Spain there are so many accents and dialects, however i feel now that i had become pretty familiar with american.

perhaps, due to so many influence in the whole world's media.

I don't think so.

Also you have no reason to criticize someone's lack of English skills, we are here to learn not to be trolled by people who still have BIG grammar FAILS and yet comes to criticize others who only ask for respect.

I think the American accent is better, because is easier to understand, the British accent some times is hard to understand, seems like they have something in their mouth. But the real reason is because that was the first accent I heard and in Colombia most of the people learn that accent.

Altair69
febrero 5, 2010, 07:17 AM
Actually, i don´t think any accent is "better" than the other one, it is just a matter of taste and subjective feelings. Personally, I feel more comfortable with people speaking with british accent, and moreover, english spoken by european, non-native english speaking people, specially Scandinavian. It seems as if i were reading a book.

Australian English.

In my opinion, Australian English is the worst way to speak proper English. If you can understand a native Australian speaking you can understand English anywhere.

I know even that American English is not the best way to speak English, it is much easier to understand. I went to USA last month for a week and were very happy talking to people there.

A few years ago I was in Boston and got pulled over by the police for speeding... the officer started talking and I could understand almost everything (it's a little bit complicated that accent, like a mix between American standard accent and British accent), but there was something he said I couldn't get... he repeated and repeated time and time again and I still couldn't get it.. he also kept asking if I spoke English, and I kept saying yes... but in the end he gave up because I couldn't understand that part. Fortunately all I got was a warning, no ticket :)

Saturday

Police officers are almost well spoken.

I was pulled over twice, damn it! first one is always a warning, second one was a ticket, it was only one week before my plane back to Bogotá, so I couln't appeal the ticket, almost everytime the cop doesn't show up therefore you don't have to pay, 137 bucks man! I still regret that!

Once I was looking for Harvard with a friend, we get lost so I asked a construction guy for directions, I didn't understand a shit! he was mumbling all over with every sentence finishing in "you know that shit man"... it was hilarious 'cause THAT was the real Boston "I don't care if you get me" accent.
