1. System Requirement
80386/80486 based IBM-AT/PS2 or 100% compatible computer. If the CPU
is 80386, the machine must have the 80387 math coprocessor.
MS-DOS 3.30 or later.
At least 1MB extended memory available excluding all device drivers
and the 640KB DOS memory. Depending on the problem size, more memory
may be required. This program is compatible with QEMM expanded memory
manager and can be run under the DESQView-386 multitasking environment.
This program can also run in a DOS window under MS-WINDOWS 3.x.
(For MS-DOS 5.0 users: If you want to run the program under DESQView,
you must have QEMM-386 version 6.00 or later)
At least 5MB of free hard disk space. You may need more free disk
space for large problems.
2. Environment
Include the following two statements in the CONFIG.SYS file of the
computer on which FLUSH PLUS-386 is going to run:
buffers=15
files=40
After the modification is made, reboot the machine to have the changes
take effect.
3. Running the Program
First create a subdirectory in your hard disk, copy the files FLUSHP.EXE
and appropriate data files onto the subdirectory. Under DOS prompt, type
FLUSHP
then follow screen prompts.
You should first test run the example data file F-EX1.DAT, and compare
the result with the provided output file F-EX1L.OUT using the utility
program DIFF.EXE. Type the following command under DOS prompt (Make sure
the program DIFF.EXE can be accessed through the path):
DIFF f-ex1.out f-ex1l.out >diffs
Then use any ASCII editor to view the file DIFFS. These two files should
be identical, except for the timing information.
You may also want to test-run the batch mode execution. You may copy
both F-EX1.DAT and F-EX2.DAT onto the subdirectory, and use the file
EXAMPLE.LST for the batch mode input. Results from these two data files
should be identical, except for the timing information.
4. Modifying the Program
The program FLUSH PLUS-386 has the feature of runtime memory setup.
Results from practical problems (up to 2000 elements) run by this version
are identical to the results of the original FLUSH program run on
mainframe computers. For practical purposes no modification is needed.
This version of FLUSH PLUS-386 is compiled using the Lahey F77L-EM/32
FORTRAN compiler (Version 5.01) under the support of PharLap 386|DOS
Extender (Version 4.1L) and the Lahey Spindrift Utility Library
(Version 3.0). The program uses certain features of FORTRAN-90. You may
need to have the above compiler, or any other compiler which supports
the FORTRAN-90 standard, to compile your modified source code. (Please
note that the Lahey FORTRAN compiler version 4.xx does not work well
due to the compiler's internal bugs).
