Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Alpha 1 Has Linux Kernel 3.2
Softpedia is the first to announce today, December 1st, that the first Alpha version of the upcoming Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) operating system is now available for download. As usual, we've grabbed a copy of it in order to keep you up-to-date with the latest changes in the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS development.
What's new in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Alpha 1? Well, the big news is that Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Alpha 1 includes the Linux kernel 3.2.0-2.5 packages, based on the Linux kernel 3.2 RC3 development release.
Also new in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Alpha 1 is that Rhythmbox is now the default music player, and Banshee was completely removed. However, there's no UbuntuOne Music Store yet, which will be ported to GTK3 soon.
Moreover, Mozilla Firefox 9.0 is now the default web browser and Mozilla Thunderbird 9.0 is the default email client. GNOME 3.2.1 is the default desktop environment, with Unity on top of it.
On the other hand, Ubuntu Server 12.04 LTS Alpha 1 brings the following features: Squid3 is now installed by the squid package, Cobbler is now based on the upstream 2.2.2 version, and the Openstack components are now based off Essex 2.
What's new in Kubuntu 12.04 LTS Alpha 1? Well, the first Alpha version of Kubuntu 12.04 LTS is build on top of KDE Software Compilation 4.7.3. There are no significant changes in this release.
