Controversy Stirs Up As ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ Poster Has Blasters Removed
Disney’s marketing department has been very unlucky when it comes to posters recently. Now that unlucky streak continues as users across social media have brought to light some interesting changes to the promotional posters that are set for Brazil. The posters showcase Han Solo, played by Alden Ehrenreich and Lando Calrissian, played by Donald Glover. The previous designs had them wielding blasters in iconic
Star Wars fashion. New designs were then released in which the popular characters are no longer holding firearms.
As you can see in the images, the change is very noticeable and honestly not as appealing as the former. This has led some users to think that Disney is making a statement based on the lack of gun control in the United Staes. Gun Control is a hot topic nowadays and the family-friendly
Star Wars saga most likely wants its fanbase to not shy away from the
Solo film.
Screenrant reached out to Disney to confirm these posters were specifically made for Brazil, so this is most likely an attempt to keep
Star Wars’ family-friendly persona intact. The fact that these posters would not be featured stateside blows all wind out of the theory this change was politically motivated.
The early versions of
Solo: A Star Wars Story character posters also went through a bit of a rough patch. The designs were very similar to artist Hachim Bahous designed album covers he created in 2015. The poster designs in question were created by BLT Communications, who previously created posters for
Mary Poppins Returns, Thor: Ragnarok, and
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. A few weeks later the posters were altered to designs that focused more on the characters and differentiated themselves from Bahous’s work.
