ROOT your Xperia Z2 Model 6503 on 23.0.1.A.0.167 Firmware WITHOUT having to downgrade firmware!
Here is what I did in SIMPLE terms:
1. Unlock bootloader using
SONY methodoffered FREE on
sonywebsite.
2. Turned on USB Debugging (Settings>About phone>Build number click it until it says you are a Developer)
Settings>Developer options check USB debugging
3. With phone attached to PC via USB, download
Xperia_Z2_D6503_23.0.1.A.0.167_Root_Recovery.zipROM and move it to your external SD cardof your Z2 phone.
4. Download and install
flashtool-0.9.18.2-windows.exe
5. Download
Advance Stock Kernel with CWM Recovery v07 (FW: 23.0.1.A.0.167} .
Unzip Z2_DooMLoRD_AdvStkKernel_FW-167-v07.zip then move boot.img file and META-INF folder into your c:\Flashtoolfolder on your PC.
6. Turn phone OFF, Hold Volume UP button, plug in USB cable that is attached to your PC. If done correctly, you should sign notification light turn to solid BLUE. Your Z2 is then in DOWNLOAD mode.
7. Run Flashtool. It should sense the USB connection to your Z2. If not, it will tell you that you need to install Z2 drivers, which you can also do using Flashtool (scroll down the list of offered drivers until you see Z2). Then use the lightning bolt icon to install boot.img which will also install CWM Recovery on your Z2 phone.
8. Boot into CWM Recovery (As phone boots, when you see logo start repeatedly pressing Volume DOWN key).
9. Wipe Cache and Davlik Cache, then install the Xperia_Z2_D6503_23.0.1.A.0.167_Root_Recovery.zip ROM
DONE!
NOTE: Before you do all this I suggest making a backup of your data and/or customized screen settings using your favorite backup tool or app. Otherwise, you'll be starting from scratch to recreate data, screens, etc when you boot into your
now ROOTED Xperia Z2!
P.S. It took me about 7 hours over a 2 day period to figure all this out on my own. If it helps you, all I ask for is a click of your THANKS button.
