Hey everyone,
I couldn't stand the fact that we couldn't get true full screen
video on the S710a.. even with the PVauthor thing, it wasn't quite "full" full-screen.
I grabbed a copy of the J2ME SDK and starting poking through the mma api's, and put together a simple but exciting demo app that
displays an mp4/3gp at FULL SCREEN, no battery indicator, nothing.. it's in the vertical mode, so I suppose you would want to somehow encode at 240 x 320 to make it look right.
I tried implementing fast-forward, but the API implementation in the S710 doesn't have the function to arbitrarily set the playback position, so boo on that.
Also for fellow coders, with this demo it seems to not support
video clips bigger than around 300kb, since I'm using getResourceasStream() that throws everything in memory first.. Is there any workaround for this, other than splitting up the file? We have to use resources embedded in the jar, since the S710 doesn't have JSR-75 to let an app access the
phone filesystem..
Link to the app ; send the jar via
Bluetooth to install it. If you want you can easily change the clip it will play; open up the jar in WinRAR and put in your own mp4 video but be sure to name it "clip.3gp" so that the app can load it.
Again this is a very simple example, but shows that it's quite possible (and not too difficult) to have full-screen video using J2ME. I'm hoping to make it so that you can throw in numbered files (1.3gp, 2.3gp, etc..) and it will keep going from one to the next, and allow you to jump to one of them. That makes up for fast-forwarding in a way.. but again we have the issue of max size of JAR.. grrr we'll find a way
Enjoy, let me know what you think!

EDIT: You can press the button in the middle of the D-Pad to pause/play the clip, and the left button will exit.
