RSI - Z310: Current consumption issues
This document is applicable for
Z310 a/i
Short problem description
High current consumption detected in some units.
(Note to Service Centres – always measure *with* SIM card as Z310 will show a high measurement without SIM card – this is not a product fault.)
Symptoms
May be experienced by end customer: short battery life; display does not go into sleep mode when clamshell is closed.
May be experienced by service centre: high current consumption measured in standby without a SIM card.
Information
There are several root causes to this problem.
(1) Measured consumption is 11-12mA in standby (with SIM).
Fix: implemented in MR2 software (R6BC002, already released).
(2) Measured consumption is 6-7mA in standby (with SIM).
Fix planned for MR3, due week 46/47.
Workaround: if the phone (clamshell) is opened and closed again, the phone should return to normal current consumption.
(3) In isolated cases, some calibration deviations may be occurring in production (under investigation), resulting in the battery indicator still sinking somewhat too fast. In these few cases, therefore, the customer may experience high battery consumption, while in fact the battery indicator is sinking somewhat too fast – under investigation. Some adjustments already done in MR2.
Solution
The currently available solution is to upgrade to MR2.
MR3 SW release will bring further improvements when available wk46/47.
Important
- if service centre wishes to re-measure the consumption, it should wait for 10 minutes after reflashing the phone, and only then re-start the phone (and measure)
- measurements should always be done with a SIM card inserted.
- current consumption may fluctuate depending on network conditions and operator used.
